NDHSAA/Farmers Union Insurance Distinguished Student - Madelyn Jean

Editorial note: We will be publishing a series of articles on getting to know this year’s distinguished student finalists.

It’s time to get to know NDHSAA Distinguished Student, Madelyn Jean from Hankinson High School, nicknamed Madi.  Her family consists of her parents Mark and Kristi, along with two brothers Andrew and Alex.

Madi is very involved in school activities, including: volleyball, basketball, track, student council, band, choir, drama as well as speech.  Needless to say she is a very active young lady.

In school, Madi’s favorite subject is chemistry, and she is going to pursue a degree in Chemical Engineering at the University of North Dakota. Once finished she will then continue on to medical school to gain a degree in pediatric surgery.  In 10 years she sees herself pursuing her career.

When she is able to find some spare time, Madi enjoys reading and eating.  Time seems to be of the essence as Madi also finds time to donate to her community through service organizations.  She enjoys spending time helping with the United Way Day of Caring, Relay for Life, Cares for Cancer as well as Locks of Love.

If Madi were in charge of our country priority number one would be to lower the cost of college tuition as she sees it puts a large burden on our youth as they graduate into the workforce.  Her number one characteristic of a good leader is optimism; while her biggest pet peeve is hearing people chew.  Madi’s perfect vacation would be to Italy and she could not go one day without her music.

When asked, “If you could share a meal with any 4 individuals living or dead who would they be?”  Madi replied she would love to eat with Albert Einstein, Richard Feynman, Thor, and her mother.  Madi’s favorite holiday is the 4th of July because she loves watching fireworks with her family and friends.  Although, she also loves white elephant gift trading at her family’s Christmas party as well.

Madi admires Reed Albrecht because he can make anyone smile regardless of the situation.  When she becomes famous, Madi feels that Selena Gomez should play her in a movie of her life.  Finally, when asked if there is anything else she would like us to know about her, Madi replied, “I aim to live my life for God.”

Congratulations to Madelyn Jean a NDHSAA/Farmers Union Insurance Distinguished Student finalist.
