VALLEY CITY, N.D. – Former West Fargo High School baseball standout Matt Strahm made his debut in Major League Baseball with the Kansas City Royals on Sunday.

Strahm, a 2010 graduate of West Fargo High School, was called up Sunday morning from the Royals’ Double-A minor league club in Northwest Arkansas. He took the roster spot of Wade Davis, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list.

Strahm pitched in Sunday’s game against the Texas Rangers in Arlington, Texas striking out one batter in a third of an inning. The Royals lost 5-3.

The 6-foot-3 left-handed pitcher was 3-8 with 107 strikeouts and a 3.43 earned run average in 18 starts with the Northwest Arkansas Naturals this season.

On Sunday, Strahm gave up a leadoff single to Mitch Moreland and followed up with a strikeout of Ryan Rua. Strahm faced a total of three batters.

Strahm, a 21st round draft pick by Kansas City in 2012, was added to the Royals 40-man roster prior to the season and was named one of the team’s top 10 prospects by several baseball scouting publications.
