VALLEY CITY, N.D. – The 2017 North Dakota High School Activities Association Class A girls golf season is in full swing.

Sydney Smith, a senior at Bismarck St. Mary’s, won 2016 state individual medalist honors. Bismarck St. Mary’s also won the team state title in 2016.

St. Mary’s opened the year with a win at the East-West Classic at the Jamestown Country Club earlier this week. In the individual race, Smith was runner up to Grand Forks Red River senior standout Morgan Hetletved. Hetletved shot a two-day total of 152, six strokes better than Smith.

Hetletved leads the East in scoring average (77.7) through three rounds this fall. Fargo Davies junior Anna Davison won the Valley City Meet earlier this season with a 79.

The 2016 NDHSAA Class A girls golf state tournament is set for Oct. 2-3 at King’s Walk Golf Course in Grand Forks.
