VALLEY CITY, N.D. – Friday Night Lights begin to shine on the 2017 North Dakota High School Activities Association football season tonight (Friday, Aug. 18) when the state’s 9-man division begins varsity competition.
2016 NDHSAA 9-man state champion Thompson travels to Cavalier at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 18 – a game that highlights a full slate of 9-man games across North Dakota.
Richland High School – located in Colfax, N.D. – winners of the 2015 NDHSAA 9-man state title travels to Ashley, N.D. to play South Border.
Thompson defeated New Salem Almont/Glen Ullin 54-20 in the 2016 9-man title game at the Fargodome.
New Salem Almont/Glen Ullin hosts Kidder County at 7 p.m. Friday, August 18 in the 9-man season opener.
Most of the Division A, Division AA and Division AAA teams begin varsity competition Friday, Aug. 25.
Ellendale/Edgeley/Kulm won the 2016 NDHSAA Division A state title. Bismarck St. Mary’s defeated Kindred in the 2016 Division AA state title game. Bismarck Century defeated Bismarck High in the 2016 NDHSAA Division AAA state title game making it two straight state titles for the Patriots.
2017 marks the first year of the NDHSAA’s two-year 2017-2018 football plan.
