NDHSAA Class A Girls Golf Notebook

VALLEY CITY, N.D. – The 2016 North Dakota High School Activities Association Class A girls golf regular season is coming to a close as postseason tournament dates on the calendar near.

The East and West Region Tournaments are set for Monday, September 26.

The East Region Tournament will be played at Bois de Sioux Golf Course is Wahpeton. The West Region Tournament will be played at Prairie West Golf Course in Mandan.

The 2016 NDHSAA Class A Girls Golf State Tournament is scheduled for Oct. 3-4 at Prairie West Golf Course.

Roughriders on a roll in East Region

Grand Forks Red River has been the top team thus far in the East Region winning six tournaments during the regular season.

The Roughriders completed the season sweep Monday, Sept. 19 with a first-place finish at the Shanley Invite hosted at the Fargo Country Club.

Red River features a deep lineup led by junior Morgan Hetletved who is averaging 18-hole rounds of 79.8 this season. Hetletved scored a 75 to win the Shanley Invite. Red River senior Hilary Whalen is averaging scores of 84.8 – second best in the East Region behind Hetletved. Fargo Davies junior Anna Davison is third with an average round of 85.

The Roughriders depth showed at the East Region’s State Qualifier Meet Sept. 12 at Village Green Golf Course in Moorhead. Seven golfers on Red River’s roster qualified for state at that event.

Minot Enters West Region on a streak

Out West, the Minot girls golf team has won five straight tournaments entering the West Region Tournament on Sept. 26. The Magicians have won those tournaments by an average of 5.8 strokes.

Minot’s team average is 340.7 while Bismarck St. Mary’s checks in at a close second with an average of 343.

Mandan (353.11, 3rd in West Region) has won two tournaments during the regular season.

Minot senior Paige Argent has won medalist individual honors at three of the last four regular-season tournaments.
