2017-18 NDHSAA Girls Hockey Preview

VALLEY CITY, N.D. – The 2017-18 North Dakota High School Activities Association girls hockey season has started. Skaters statewide have hit the ice in hopes of positioning their team for a trip to the state tournament in February.

Bismarck has won three straight NDHSAA girls hockey state championships and enters 2017-18 as preseason favorites receiving 6 of the 11 first place votes in the Statewide Coaches Poll. Fargo North-South garnered the other five first-place votes trailing the Blizzard by only two points in the poll.

Bismarck returns senior forward Britta Curl, who led the state in scoring a year ago with 41 goals and 23 assists (64 points). Curl is a Wisconsin commit.

North-South’s co-op program returns a pair of senior forwards – Graysen Myers and Anna Erickson – who combined for 83 points last season. Myers scored 28 goals and 18 assists while Erickson scored 14 goals to go along with 23 assists (tied with Curl for most in the state).

Myers and Erickson were second and third on the state’s scoring leaderboard, respectively.

North-South also returns senior goaltender Kaylee Caspers (1.65 goals against average) who posted a 92.1 save percentage her junior season and was 12-5-0 in 17 games played.

West Fargo returns junior goaltender Brooklyn Myrvik who finished her sophomore season with a 93.1 save percentage and a 1.66 goals against average. West Fargo also returns its top scorer from a year ago – senior Courtney Walsh (25 goals, 10 assists, 35 points).

Other top 10 returning scorers from a year ago are:

Kylie Schafer, Sr., Fargo Davies – 20 goals, 11 assists, 31 points
Dessa Flom, Sophomore, Minot – 21 goals, 7 assists, 28 points

2017-18 NDHSAA Girls Hockey Important Dates:

State Tournament: Feb. 22-24 at Grand Forks.
